The University,
at the Grassroots

The Institute for Rural Development (IRD) is the flagship unit of the University of Venda (UNIVEN), mandated to spearhead programmes designed to achieve the institution-wide vision: to be at the centre of tertiary education for rural and regional development in Southern Africa.

IRD seeks to make a significant impact in Southern Africa, with Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces as the principal focal areas.
